We wish you all a Happy New Year, and welcome you to the 20th year of “Planet Gymnastics”.  The gym was built in 1997 and opened as “SportsXtreme” before switching to Planet in 2001.  We are proud to have seen our students move on to college, careers, and families.  We would like to thank the many parents who have helped us over the years to provide a safe and productive place for our children.

We have a holiday closing on Monday, January 16th, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  As we have 5 Mondays in January, there will be no need for a make up class.

Our Mardi Gras meet takes place on the weekend of February 3-5 and the deadline for our Junior Level 1 and Recreational/Development Teams to sign up is Friday, January 13th.   The meet will have USA judges, electronic scoreboards, and trophies.  Sign up at the front desk for $65.

The Bronze team (level 1 senior and level 2) have a clinic on Saturday, January 14th, 8-11am, to learn their new competitive routines.  Check the rate, and sign up at the front desk in advance.

Our Senior Optional team, levels 6-10, have a meet in Baton Rouge on Saturday, January 21st.

Remember to update any information at the front desk.  Sign up for credit card or bank draft and save money on your tuition.  Finally, sign up on our website to receive these handouts in your email.  We wish you all a safe and successful 2017.

‘Tis the season…..our annual Winter Wonderland will take place on Friday, December 9th, from 5-6pm.  All students are invited.  Class students should sign up at the front desk, $10.  They will perform on 2 events and receive a gift from Santa.  Team levels 3/silver and up, will perform an exhibition and should wear team leotards.  Practice will end at 6pm. Holiday closing starts December 26 and we reopen on Monday January 2nd.

In fencing news, congratulations to gymnastics/fencing coach, Natasha.  She verbally committed to Wagner College in New York, where she received a fencing scholarship to be part of their NCAA Division 1 team!  She will take a gap year before signing, so we will still have her coaching for a while.

Next year is our 20th year in business, and we look forward to hosting the Alabama State Championships in March, and the USA Region 8 Championships in April, both at the Convention Center, so let us know if you would like to be involved as a volunteer, sponsor or vendor.  Details are on our website

We thank you for your business this year, and hope your children benefited from it.  We wish everyone a peaceful holiday season 🙂

The gym will be closed on Monday, October 31st to let everyone go “trick or treating”.  This will be the 5th Monday of the month, so no make up class.

Our big holiday this month is Thanksgiving, so we will be closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, November 23-25th.  There will be no Open Gym either.  Make up classes for Thursday and Friday (there are 5 Wednesdays, so they don’t need one) will be on Saturday 19th. Sign up at the front desk, and check what time your class is at.

Our Winter Wonderland Performance is rolling around again, so save the date now.  Friday, December 9th, 5-6pm.  It is always a great night.

Team girls have meets this month in Montgomery and Ocean Springs.  Our level 1 and 2 teams have been winning every meet they have entered, so far!

We got some big news in fencing – Natasha has been offered a scholarship to compete on the Division 1 NCAA fencing team at Wagner University in New York.  She will take a gap year first, so she can continue to coach our gymnasts.  Our fencing team will compete in New Orleans and  Atlanta this month.  We will also have a top Russian fencer visiting for a week in November, so make sure to schedule those private lessons.

Please remember to renew your registration form and hand it in to the front desk.  We changed to a great new program at the front desk, and are still missing some information from the transfer.  Thanks!

Finally, sign up on our website to receive this letter by email.

First of all, a big thank you to everyone who participated in our free open gym on National Gymnastics Day.  We raised almost $300 for the Children’s Miracle Network here in Mobile!

This month we have two Monday holidays.  Fortunately there are five Mondays in October, so you only need to make up one.  Make up day for rec. classes is Saturday, October 22nd, so sign up at the front desk for one of the classes.  The holidays are October 10th for Columbus Day and 31st for Halloween.

The Planet Beach Meet is on the weekend of October 15 & 16.  You can see our young dynamites, juniors, and our recreational development team compete at 8am on Saturday.  Our team levels 1-5 compete throughout Saturday, and Sunday morning.  The schedule and admission prices is posted on our website and the front door.  You can pick up a schedule at the front desk or in the boxes in the lobby.  This is a USA Gymnastics sanctioned event and will be a lot different from what you usually see at the gym.

Dress Up Week is 24th-28th, so dress up to every class you attend.  The coaches will be dressed up too, and we will have some candy to give away.

Vlad has now finished installing industrial fans in the gym to add to the air conditioning, just in time for our Indian summer.

We have a new boys coach, Alex (and his wife).  He has developed some great boys’ programs up north, and we are excited to have his energy in the gym.  We are also happy that our former State Champion, Jon Zugg is back in the gym, and doing a great job coaching the girls’ team on bars.

Good luck to our level 1 and 2 teams competing across the bay, and in Mississippi (L2 only) this month.  We will have team practice as normal on the Monday after the meet (17th).

Our fencing team has some new members, including some adults.  Success has also come along, with Sienna winning her first trophy for 3rd place at the Birmingham tournament, and Natasha winning a 7th place medal at the Athens tournament.  Anyone can take a free trial class, just see the front desk.

Congratulations to the USA Gymnastics Teams!  They performed outstandingly at the Olympics, and gave the world a very entertaining show.  They did their country and their sport proud.

We are now starting a new school year, so look out for new rates, and your annual registration fee.  Pick up a new events calendar at the front desk, if you don’t already have one.

So what is new?  We hope you like the new outside of the building, and the painting inside the gym.  We have a great new class program at the front desk, so fill out your registration form to make sure we have up to date contact information.  We have opened a new homeschooling class on a Wednesday from 2-3pm.  Coach Diamond has a new dance studio inside the building.  Our fencing program is growing. It was exciting to watch the USA team in Rio.  The room at the front entrance is available for rent.

Monday, September 5th is a holiday for Labor Day.  Make ups for those classes will take place on Saturday 10th, so sign up at the front desk.

On Saturday, September 17th, from 10-12pm, we will be celebrating National Gymnastics Day with a free open gym to raise funds for the Children’s Miracle Network.  This is a fun reminder for our kids to be grateful and give back, so bring your friends.  They just need to be signed in by a parent.  All ages.  Under 5s can play in the preschool area with their parents.

One of our team parents is collecting items for the families affected by the flooding in Baton Rouge.  You can find a list at the front desk.  Any homeschooling supplies can also be dropped off.

We hope you are enjoying your summer.  Our day camps run continuously through August 5th, and Friday night Open Gyms run throughout the year.

The gym closes to team and classes to let our coaches have summer vacation on July 25-30th.  Classes should have had their make up class on July 9th. See the front desk if you missed.  Team will continue daytime practice until Monday, August 8th, when evening hours resume.

Team members should see the front desk to be referred to one of our great Parents’ Committee members, if they have any questions about leotard orders, meet fees, or USA Gymnastics fees which are due this month.  A finalized meet schedule will be handed out next month.

The new Planet calendar is being handed out this week.  You can also pick one up at the front desk.  Fencing and dancing classes will continue. Look out for a small change in fees as we start this new school year.

We hope you enjoyed the US Olympic Trials, and look forward to the Rio opening on August 5th, with the US gymnastics and fencing teams going for gold!
